I just don't know whether to buy in to this swine flu outlook. Is it pandemic or panic?

I seriously don't believe it is as serious as Obambi and others are making it out. There is so much talk on this on Facebook,,and most think it is another conspiracy. I'm thinking I 'might' get a regular flu shot this fall,,,but am not sold on this swine flu vaccine.

I really have a hard time believing it. They try to compare it to the 1918 pandemic, yet one of the least known facts about that particular pandemic was the fact many of the deaths could be attributed to aspirin. the biological response to an infection is fever, this new wonder drug comes along, it suppresses fever, allowing for a higher level of infection before it's no longer effective, and the body's natural immune system is overwhelmed. - victim dies. Very little was known about causality, and modes of infection then, as compared to now. The one thing that I keep wondering about is the way schools have prepared to handle any outbreak. They seem to be centering around handling students on their own, rather than just making sure they stay home. One has to wonder about the logic of ill children in the public. After all, they aren't the most hygienic creatures on the planet - even with everyone telling them not to share toys, eat toys, or wash their hands, they are going to do it. At this particular point in history, I would say that a medical emergency would benefit the president, and both houses of congress. We have people in power that have stated they never waste a good crisis. I think we have more of a threat from the government trying to setup, and use a crisis than the crisis itself... foil hat? maybe, but I don't put much beyond possible with the current communist-in-chief.

I do not believe anything the government is telling us. I have heard of other times when flu outbreaks were supposed to be so bad but then they weren't. I think you are just fine as long as you remember to wash your hands often and to use good common sense. I used to teach school and there are so many people who sent their kids to school when they were sick just because of the baby sitting nightmares they would have if the kids had to stay home. This should not be tolerated. If people prefer to work than to stay home with their kids, they should have their baby sitting plans all prepared in advance. I am glad I am not a teacher anymore! Four years was about 3 1/2 yrs. too much!!!!

I heard on the news that the people who die from the flu are the ones with compromised immune systems. Maybe someone is keeping track of who has died from it and why. I do know that a lot of people do not eat very well and their kids are not fed good healthy diets.

I think your post is right on target Hasset.I don't know much about the swine flu but I do know this:Two people I know very well went on a road trip together through the great southwest last month. They rode in the same car and shared the same motel rooms:one got the swine flu and one didn't and both are fine today.I'm not a public health official but this leads me to believe that most healthy people should not over-react and give up any liberties for government promised safety.BUT please do your own research and do not put your life at risk because of my opinion.

One more thought;it's hard to take threats seriously after a lifetime of global cooling/global warming/ global climate change scares, plus the population bomb, acid rain, ozone hole, nuclear winters ect...

How are they going to make that ibuprofen thing work with the 100% no drugs/no tolerance/drug-free zone policies these nut jobs have in the schools. They suspend students for a d**n vitamin.

You have to send a note from your doctor saying you can give an aspirin, cough drop, or anything to your child. I think your kid should stay home if he needs to take something.
I came across something worse than this last week. My husband has mild high blood pressure. I went to get his prescription and he had asked me to get the easy open lid. The pharmacy would give me the prescription but not the easy open lid. If my husband does not want the child proof lid, he has to go to the pharmacy and sign a paper. It is o.k. for someone other than him to get the pills but not the lid. How stupid.

I don't know what piperdown and hasset are whining about. It is birth control products that should not only be allowed in the schools but promoted.

A little off topic but somewhat the same as what we are talking about here-----Something else I find strange is that when I went to the grocery store to get some garlic salt, I was looking over the spices and I saw a big sign where the poppy seed is supposed to be. It said that you have to get poppy seed at the customer service desk. Are people getting a buzz out of poppy seed these days? What if a kid had a poppy seed roll in his lunch. Is the school going to kick him out of school for doing drugs? I am more sure than ever that I would home school if I were having kids today.

I agree with fishin. It is hard to take these threats seriously. I think the whole swine flu thing is being blown out of proportion.
