What was the first show you ever remember watching on television? I'll give you my answer later.

I don't remember the year but WOI TV in Ames, Iowa, was on the campus of Iowa State U. and it was the first station around. They had two half hour Agriculture programs. I think one was called Farm Facts or Down to Earth or something like that. It was in the evenings and afterwards they played one short Lone Ranger program and that was it for the whole day--- a whole 1 and 1/2 hrs. of TV. The university had a TV set at the union where people could watch these three half hour programs. I remember getting up a bunch of kids from the neighborhood and going to the union early so we could get good seats. We would lay on the floor right in front of it. My father was one of the first people in Ames to get a TV set. The screen wasn't big but the set was enormous and weighed a ton. We had to take the dining room table and put it in the living room so we had something sturdy enough for the giant set. My father was an engineer and he always was one of the first ones to buy anything and then he would take it apart to study it. We kids would be so mad at him because he never put things back together for a long time. I have never felt old until we started talking about these things on this blog. Now I feel like an antique. I even remember when I was 3 yrs. old and we still had an ice box. The ice man had a horse and wagon and I remember him giving all the kids ice chips to chew. Now I really feel old!

The first show I can ever rember watching is believe it or not...a cartoon. It was the Underdog. I also remember heckle and jeckle...and they both were silent shows.
The first sitcom my parents ever let us watch was Happy Days.

I am probably the oldest one on the blog but I can say I rarely saw programs when they first came out. I never had time and I wasn't interested in TV that much until I retired. I am catching up on what I missed out on when most of the programs first came out. I do think the old westerns are wonderful. Those never go out of style. I think the life of a cowboy was so free and uncomplicated and besides, who wouldn't want to ride a horse instead of a car in all of today's traffic?
