Is there a chance for us to reduce or eliminate our dependence on foreign oil? It sounds like it if you believe the following article. I have no doubt that it is possible with someone at our helm with the will and forward political vision. www.americanthinker.com/2009/03/an_end_to_dependence_on_middle.htmlJust think what this would mean to our country. There would be jobs provided by the private sector rather than the government (the Obama way). Also just think of the positive impact on our foreign policy and national security. Look at the comparisons for oil reserves in Canada and the United State compared to Saudi Arabia. Isn't it time we begin issuing permits as a government and then get out of the way? On top of this, in spite of scare tactics by "environmental groups" this can all be done in an environmentally friendly manner. What say the rest of you? By the way, I chose to place this link here because some of the technology already exists and could be further developed and refined with any encouragement at all from the government.

I agree, but the left has victimized and and terrorized everything that can make this a reality.
The have characterized oil as "EVIL" and nuclear as "OFF LIMITS AND DANGEROUS", so we will be at the hemst of the liberals until we have a change of heart in this country. Putting America first is simple, and vital to our natioanl security, but not enough of America cares. They have become complacent and reliant on the government to solve all their problems....but in reality, they just make it worse.

Funny you have mentioned nuclear. I had a friend some years ago who was an esteemed physics professor at Iowa State who always stated that nuclear was the cleanest and most efficient way to produce energy on a large scale basis. Then again what would he know in comparison to any politician who listens to fanatical constituents?
