Amusing, Val. Were you or are you Farmlad? This looks familiar. Just curious.
Tasharose, do you ever make cheese at home or is that not possible with this type of milk?

yeah, no surge milkers here.
I have vegetable rennet on hand for cheese making, yes. Goat cheese is amazing. Have you never had feta cheese? It's goat milk cheese.
It also makes wonderful yoghurt.

I absolutely love feta cheese and have used it in salads for years. I guess I was never aware that it was from goat's milk.

I think goats, the poor man's cows, are the most wonderful animals. I raised them for over 25 yrs. I had Toggenburgs, Alpines and Nubians. The Alpines were my favorites. Mine were tame like big dogs. They went for walks with me and loved to play games and act silly. When I got my first one, I didn't know anything about goats and we let the horns grow and had to have them cut off when she was a yr. old. I would never do that again!!!!! It was awful and so bloody. The goat was mad at me for at least 6 mos. before she would play again or even look at me. From then on, I de-horned and de-scented when they were young babies. Originally, I had planned to drink the milk and make cheese. I had a small pasteurizer but it took so much time, I scrapped that idea. I never did make cheese. When I was in Norway, I got a big hunk of goat cheese to see what it tasted like. I hated it. It was that brown, gritty kind and it was just terrible. I didn't know until recently that there are other kinds of goat cheese that I had been eating for years and loved. My husband took lots of movies of our children riding goats like they were horses. I can't think of another animal that is as nice a pet as a goat. A friend of mine sold her young goats but told me that people would come and bleed them out on her front yard. We always gave away our kids (goats) to people who were not going to eat them as I couldn't handle that! My Alpine goats lived to be nearly 20 yrs. old. The Vet said that was really unusual. Anyone who has a goat has a real luxury animal!
