As of right now it is clear out here. If it is that way in the morning I will attempt to find the comet. I will keep you all posted. If someone else sees it I really want to hear about it. While experienced sometimes it takes many eyes. The youngster that discovered this comet beat the professionals on this one. That is the way it works some times. Keep us all posted, please.

Need a telescope for this or is it bright enough to observe with the naked eye?

I don't know yet and neither do the astronomers. I am guessing a good set of binocs will be needed. I keep hoping for clear early morning skies for a change.

Comet C/2007 N3 (Lulin), also known as Comet Lulin, is a non-periodic comet. It will peak in brightness for observers on Earth on February 24, 2009, between magnitude +4 and magnitude +6. It currently lies 0.492 AU from Earth, appearing at magnitude +6.2 in the constellation Virgo. The comet became visible to the naked eye from dark-sky sites around February 7. It passed the double star Zubenelgenubi on February 6, near Spica on February 15 and 16, and is predicted to pass near Gamma Virginis on February 19 and near the star cluster M44 around March 4 and 5. cometography.com/lcomets/2007n3.htmlwww.astrodrayer.com/lulinCountdown to closet approach and charts located here. www.spaceweather.com/comets/gallery_lulin.htmMore PICs from contributors here. This will serve as an update. We have not had an early morning here since I began this blog that has been appropriate. Tomorrow a.m. sounds crummy as well. I am fearful that I will never get to see this comet.
The photos are beautiful admin.
