This should be a fun one. I am just curious if you ever had a special teacher somewhere along the line that had the greatest impact on your life. I did. When I was in Jr. High we had a little woman who was tough as nails named Miss Ver Steeg (sp?) who taught English and Latin. Many was the day when even the boys were in tears for not having their assignments done. This woman could have been a marine drill sgt. I sure respected her. I killed myself to just get a C in Latin. Once I got to highschool and took my second year of Latin it was so easy. She was tough, but boy did she know her stuff. If she was teaching today she would be thrown out for not putting up with any guff or would be sued by disgruntled parents. Too bad we don't have a few more with her toodles, and a few less parents who molly coddle their pampered kids on cell phones rather than giving them a little direction.
Jump in with your recollections.

I had an English teacher who sounds just like your Latin teacher. Boy, could I ever diagram a sentence when she was done with me. She never could get my spelling better though. I had her in 8th and 9th grades. When I got to college, I had room mates who had never even written a theme and didn't know a verb from a noun but I breezed through any English class. Yes, this teacher was like a Marine drill sgt. Actually, for real, she had been a Wac in WWII---I think it was the same difference. Her good friend who was the math teacher (equally as tough) had been in the military too. The math teacher was really tough but life from then on was really easy. They were good teachers. The part none of us kids liked was that these two teachers were also our Sunday School teachers and you didn't know what tough was until you had them at church too! You couldn't get away with anything.
