Sales tax went from 6.5% in most areas of the state to 6.785% on July 1 because of the ridiculous amendment to the state constitution that was passed last fall. Some areas like the seven county metro area have higher rates yet.
Did you know that you already were paying 9.7% sales tax on your residential garbage collection and disposal?
Did you know that commercial/industrial entities were already paying 17% sales tax on garbage collection and disposal?
Minnesota while beautiful is tax crazy. My question to you is, what will the state tax next ----combinations, boxers and y-fronts?

Hey, hasset. What are your taxes like in Iowa? How about your sales tax? Is it the same as ours?

I'm starting to think North Dakota sounds pretty good or South.

I think taxes are bad everywhere. We have a 7% sales tax. My mini farm had low property taxes for years and then all of a sudden they were increased by $200 for a few yrs. in a row. The reason-----the county looked at everyone's taxes and thought the rural people were not paying enough. Our local school is constantly having a school bond issue and of course they always say it is for 3 yrs. only. Have you ever seen a tax that quit after three yrs.? It is always continued and they are hoping by that time you have forgotten about the three yr. limit and then they propose another new tax for some new project. I have never seen a school system like that one. Everything is new, huge, carpeted, air conditioned, so very modern. I didn't send my kids to that school but sent them to a parochial school in town. It cost $3,300 per student but my kids did so much better than at the local school. At first I was allowed to discount the tuition off my income taxes but then that option was removed. I actually was paying for two schools then. It is another area that is not fair but at least my kids got a decent education.
I think Idaho was supposed to be a good place to live with low taxes. I bet that is changing now. I do not think you can get away from being over taxed. One thing I do is to not shop unless I have to. This world would fall apart if everyone avoided consuming like I do. I tell my husband not to buy anything unless it is something he just has to have or if it is something the kids would like to inherit. That usually stops his consuming (other than his books)
