We had our first hummingbird this morning. The earliest we have ever had one was on May 2 and the latest was last year on May 12. Typically the hummers and orioles have arrived here on May 7 - 8 - 9. This was a nice way to start the morning. Be watching, as our little friends are coming home.
This morning when I walked the dog I heard our first great crested flycatcher of the year and we had three yellow-rumped warblers (Myrtle race) splashing in our waterway.
Now if we could just get some rain to reduce the fire hazard. We had about three drops early this morning, I counted.
Happy bird watching (and listening)!

I just saw our first rose breasted grosbeak of the year this afternoon. Maybe spring is finally here. I mentioned that I had seen a hummer two days ago. I haven't seen one since, so the majority of them are still on their way home. Am I being a chauvinist assuming that northern Minnesota is their true home? Nah.

The orioles are moving back home now. I heard one this morning. What are the rest of you seeing and hearing?

We have hummingbirds everywhere now. We also saw our first indigo bunting of the year yesterday and an ovenbird today. Our neighbor saw the female scarlet tanager this past weekend, but we have not been so fortunate. As always the eagles and ospreys are thick.
Happy birding and please post what you are seeing or have visiting your feeders.
