Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey released the following statement regarding the Party’s new web video highlighting Franken’s tax trouble.
“As we continue to hear of new Obama administration nominees with histories of failing to pay their taxes, we have to ask the question, why do these individuals think they don’t have follow the law just like everyone else does? Al Franken didn’t pay taxes in at least 17 states for at least 5 years– and his further refusal to provide any substantive documentation to show he has since corrected the failure – is a serious concern to all Minnesotans. If we don’t know if Al Franken has been truthful about this basic legal responsibility, how do we know there aren’t other rules he doesn’t think he has to follow. It begs the question – what else do they think they can get away with?”
As Al Franken reportedly returns from his two-week tropical vacation, Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey released the following statement after reports surfaced suggesting that Al Franken may finally speak with the media.
“While Minnesotans have trudged through the cold and closely monitored the progress of the election contest, Al Franken has been kept ‘in the box’ and away from the media in Florida. Now, we all know that Al’s Minnesota connections are born out of nothing more than political expediency, but we in Minnesota are proud of our open and transparent election process and expect those who want to represent us actually care what is going on in the state. Thankfully, Senator Coleman has been an active participant in it. Now that Al Franken is back, perhaps he will answer some questions that have been on the minds of Minnesotans.
With that, let me suggest a few:
How would Al Franken - who did not pay his own taxes for at least five years and still has not produced any documentation that he actually paid them - have voted on the appointments of fellow tax-challenged Democrats like Tim Geithner, Tom Daschle and Nancy Killefer?
