Washington Referendum 71 (2009) ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/Washington_Referendum_71_%282009%29There are about 5,700 registered domestic partnerships in Washington. That seems like an awfully lot of same-sex couples to me. I always think of Washington to be very liberal but there is a big group that wants to keep marriage between a man and a woman. I think it is good that there is a veto process if enough people sign a petition and want the bill to go to the popular ballot. The bad part of having people sign a petition about anything is that the opposition can get lists of who is on the petition and then harass them. Then the ones being harassed can sue and I am sick of hearing about more law suits! No wonder lawyers are rich. Go to this article and read the comments at the end. They are very interesting. ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/Washington_Referendum_71_%282009%29
