I have been reading things on the NRA web site. I had no idea there were as many pieces of legislation in the works for each of the states and the country as a whole concerning guns. One of the bills has to do with being permitted to use a weapon to defend yourself outside your home. I hope everyone combs over the NRA website and is able to see all the things going on. www.nraila.org/

A word about shotguns. I saw this video a while back, and although shotguns sometimes are crude weapons, they have come a long way. Take for instance this A-A12..Fully automatic and makes the m-16 look pale in comparison: my dream gun: by far it the only thing that has close to the capabilities of the aa12. There are also a few othe good shot guns for combat style self defense besides the defenders which i mentioned and the aa12. The striker: and a few others: It all depends what the use....or purpose. Certain sizes are more common than others; 12-gauge is the most common size, with up to 50% of the overall shotgun market in the United States. The 20-gauge shotgun is popular with shooters who are uncomfortable with the weight and recoil of a 12 gauge gun, and is popular for upland game hunting. The next most popular size is the .410 shotgun, which is not a gauge but a caliber. 10, 16, and 28 gauges, while less common, are still readily available. Shotguns larger than 10-gauge are rarely manufactured nowadays. 8-gauge is rare due to its abolition in the United States because it was considered a "destructive device". There are also double barrel and over under shot guns available in many variations as well.

Yes I am serious...but they are quite spendy. As I said, it is my DREAM gun...not one I have to have. I would be happy with a single shot or bolt action 50 cal too. You can really reach out and touch something with it.

I am also considering buying a hand gun. Thanks for all the information. I just returned from a mission trip to Mexico and saw some nice machine guns there. The Mexican military has increased their patrol in many towns along the border.

Good for you, those mission trips are great. My church just sent a bunch of kids to Mexico on a mission trip this month. I was wondering if it were a safe thing to do. The news about Mexico isn't too great anymore. I do not think I could send my kid on a mission trip there. At least not in the big cities. Those small towns are pretty nice, at least they used to be. I went 40 yrs. ago for two weeks of art classes and had a terrible time in Mexico City and a good time in the small mountain villages.

50bmg is only NFA if it's: 1)short rifle -seems pointless, but some fool likely would try 2)sonic suppressed -again... why? 3)capable of, or easily converted to fire more than one round per trigger pull. I love shooting my Iver AMAC 50 No one else at a range likes it, but then when did they think this was a quiet pastime? Besides, I enjoy the noosebleeds from proning 30 rounds through a clarke break. (not really... it just comes with the territory) It was allot more fun out west, the local range had a 1500 mtr max. Hard to shoot here too close, populated, and generally dangerous. 50's LOVE to ricochet, it seems to defy logic, but all that mass in motion behaves poorly. Projectiles don't come apart like a "regular" round. Like this poor guy finds out. Man, G*d takes care of fools, this is all the proof you need: Shotguns are still for farmers.
